Wilson 815226 Sleek Cell Signal Booster Review Vehicle Cradle with built-in dual-band cell signal booster
|
for a vehicle. The cradle has a built-in cell signal
booster to amplify your cell phone signal while
driving.
The Wilson 815226 Sleek is a new product from
Wilson Electronics. At the time of this review, the
product has not been officially released. Powerful
Signal has a pre-release version of the kit, so some
things may change before the final product is
released.
Packaging
The system comes in a nice, neatly packed box.
Contained in the box is the following:

 | | Additional cradle arms

 | | Vehicle power supply
|
 | | Outside mini-magnet antenna
|
 | | Mounting bracket and alcohol wipe

Outside Antenna
A Wilson 301126 3dB gain Mini-Magnet mount
antenna is included with the kit. This antenna is
about 4" tall and has about 10' of RG174 coax
attached to it. The SMA connector on the end easily
hand tightens onto the Wilson Sleek cradle. The
magnet mount on the antenna firmly holds the
antenna onto any metal vehicle roof without any
problem.
Other dual-band cellular antennas can be used in
place of the 4" mini-mag. The mini-mag provided in
the kit is a good antenna, but there are more others
with more gain. The 12" 5dB Wilson 301125
magnet mount has stronger gain, but it is also
taller. Other Wilson vehicle antennas may be used
such as the 301101 Trucker, but a conversion
connected is required to convert to the SMA
connector on the Sleek cradle.
Summary
In my opinion this a great system for the money. I would recommend the system to anyone that is
around town and needs a good steady signal for business like a salesperson or real estate agent.
This would not be my choice for someone in a very remote area that is struggling to get any type
signal. Individuals in remote areas should use the stronger 3 watt amplifiers like the Wilson
801201 and 811210.

The Cradle
Wilson has put together a very impressive cradle
design. The back of the cradle where the cell
phone touches is covered and padded with a soft
leatherette-like material. It has a good look and
feel. The arms on each side of the cradle can be
adjusted up and down and there are 3 slots on
each side for the arms to adjust inward and
outward to accommodate various cell phone sizes.
There are 2 feet on the bottom of the cradle to hold
the cell phone. These feet are not adjustable, but I
don't see this as a problem, unless you have an
extremely skinny cell phone.
The cradle is extremely small and light. This is
lightweight, it has a solid feel to it.
The cradle slides wrap around the cell phone. They
do not need to press against the sides. This
makes it easy to place your cell phone into the
cradle and also to easily remove it with out pushing
any buttons or tugging on the phone.
The cradle antenna is built into the thin padded
plate that the cell phone rests against. The cell
phone must be in the cradle for any amplification to
occur. This means that you will need to use some
sort of Bluetooth headset or speaker phone with the
Sleek. A wired headset can also be used.

Cradle Mount I like the cradle mount provided in the box. Others are available as an option. The mount has a swivel that allows you to tilt the cell phone towards you. The back of the mount is flexible so the mount can be placed on a curved surface. Sometimes finding a flat surface is a bit difficult. 3M adhesive is used to mount the swivel on your dash or console.
|
Vehicle Power Supply A regular USB cable is used to plug into the cradle and vehicle power supply. I like this type of setup because it is small and can easily be configured to use a wall plug with a USB connector. The power supply is small and has a indicator light on the back that lets you know if the receptacle is on or off.

Connecting the Components
Above is how the components in the kit are connected together. The SMA connector on the cradle
is used to connect the outside antenna. The USB connector on the base of the cradle is used to
connect the cradle to the power supply. Overall, connection is easy and simple. Cables can
usually be hidden under floor mats or behind plastic molding in the vehicle.
